Objective

The customer needed a solution that would prevent concrete deterioration in their mechanic shop. With the intense wear and tear in a mechanic shop environment, including exposure to chemicals, oil, and heavy machinery, the goal was to ensure the concrete would remain in optimal condition for years to come. After considering various options, they chose PRO Tek Concrete for its ability to withstand harsh chemical environments while also providing long-term durability. The client wanted to protect their investment and ensure the concrete would stay strong, stable, and functional for the long term.

Process

Following initial set and once the concrete could safely support foot traffic, the EverTek team applied PRO Tek Concrete using backpack sprayers.  It was applied in controlled coverage areas of approximately 1,600 sq ft—aligned with the 4-gallon capacity of each unit at 400 sq. ft. per gallon, to ensure accurate dosing and consistent results. To achieve uniform saturation and full surface treatment, each spray pass overlapped the previous by 40–50%. Continuous surface wetness for a minimum of 20 minutes was essential to optimize curing performance, allowing the product to penetrate effectively, reduce premature moisture loss, and enhance the concrete’s long-term density and resistance to surface deterioration

Solution

For this project, the EverTek team applied PRO Tek Concrete as both a cure and fortifier (seal) on the freshly poured concrete slab. By using PRO Tek Concrete, we slowed the hydration process, essentially performing wet curing. This technique ensures moisture is retained within the concrete, preventing rapid drying that could lead to surface crazing, spalling and scaling. The concrete surface remained visibly dark for weeks, indicating that the curing process was proceeding optimally. The application of PRO Tek Concrete not only protected the concrete from common issues but also enhanced its density, strength and abrasion resistance to heavy machinery and harsh chemicals.

Outcome

The PRO Tek Concrete application resulted in a long-lasting, durable concrete surface that remains resistant to chemical exposure, scaling and spalling. The concrete slab stayed dark for weeks, signaling successful hydration control and curing. The client now has a high-performance concrete surface capable of enduring the harsh conditions typical in a mechanic shop, ensuring the longevity and protection of their investment for years to come.

Challenges and Considerations

Mechanic shops are exposed to aggressive chemical environments, including oils and heavy-duty vehicle traffic. These factors can lead to rapid concrete degradation if not properly addressed. The challenge was to find a product that could withstand chemical exposure while also ensuring proper curing and preventing premature breakdown. PRO Tek Concrete was chosen for its proven ability to withstand these harsh conditions while promoting optimal curing and strengthening both the surface and internal concrete matrix.
